pas cher chic does NYC: Rachel

As promised, I was fortunate to have a second fashion-forward friend grace pas cher chic.

Rachel, also an upper east side resident, has been a go-to friend for my borrowing needs. Her closet is chock full of F21 and H&M, but her eye for color and balance makes her outfits look straight out of Saks.

Some advice from the savvy-shopper? While she balances her time between thrift stores and higher-end retailers, Rachel advises to go ahead and buy more expensive pieces that will truly render you a happy woman. "Looking great makes everyone feel confident, so it's worth it." Touche!

Above, Rachel works the wide-legged pants with a fitted sheer blouse and burst of color (we bonded over our mustard obsession). Best part? The entire outfit cost less than $100.

Top: Allison Taylor (second hand), $8.99. Pants: Mlle Cabrielle, $15.99. Shoes: MIA, $49.99. Scarf: H&M, $12.99

It was COLD in the city, and Rachel was on the lookout for a coat/jacket at the Goodwill that morning. Within minutes, Rachel pulled this beauty from the racks, with a big smile: $34. Perfect condition.

When was the last time you bought a heavy fall coat for the same price as five chipotle meals? (Apologies, my monetary comparisons are often food-related).

Coat (specifically a shearling suede jacket): vintage, $34.99. Shoes: MIA. Pants: H&M, $34.99. Top: F21, $22.
Beautiful, just beautiful.
While none of us had the chance to do denim on denim, Rachel threw on this H&M jean button up to pull her final look together. A popular trend from summer, denim is a great casual add-on for a dress (add belt and boots, dress becomes skirt). Or, as Rachel models here, a jean button-up serves as a perfect layer for fall weather.

Hat: vintage. Top (denim): H&M, $29.99. Pants: Gap, $49.99. Shoes: F21, $19.99.

Round of applause for Ms. Schaub, who is showing NYC how fashion is supposed to be done. More pictures to come, check back this weekend. Everyone enjoy their Columbus Day weekend!
